Equiticity’s “Claiming Our Space” event focused on BIPOC leadership, community power, and advancing “critical conversations and actions.”
Last week, the mobility justice nonprofit Equiticity hosted the event "Claiming Our Space: Powering an Equitable Future" with the intention of introducing participants to "the breadth of our vision, mission, philosophies, and work." According to the organization, "Equiticity's 2025 signature event is an immersive, two-day convening designed to center Black, Brown, and Indigenous leadership, celebrate community power, and advance critical conversations and actions."

Not trapped under ICE: During Trump’s immigration enforcement crackdown, bike riders alert public, spread the word about legal rights
On Monday, the Donald Trump-controlled Department of Homeland Security announced a sting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Illinois and Chicago, dubbed Operation Midway Blitz. In response, bike riders are protesting the campaign, and notifying residents who may be at risk of what Mayor Brandon Johnson recently called "militarized immigration enforcement without due process."

Last month, when I interviewed State Rep. Kam Buckner about efforts to address the looming $771 million Chicagoland transit fiscal cliff, he noted that the discussion of the topic in the media has been something of a "boy's club." (Today, Buckner and I talked some more about this subject with Outside the Loop Radio's Mike Stephen on a show airing this Saturday morning, which doesn't undermine that argument.)
