Yes, Chicago has a long way to go to become truly bicycle-friendly. But People for Bikes’ recent post, using our city as a poster child, is a joke.
Let me start out by stating the obvious. Everyone who rides a bicycle in Chicago, or doesn't because they don't feel safe doing so, knows that our city is a less-than-ideal place for cycling.

Femmes + Thems Bike Chicago offers a “safe space for women, femme, nb, and trans Chicagoans to ride bikes together.”
A relatively recent addition to the Chicago bike scene is Femmes + Thems Bike Chicago, which describes itself as a "safe space for women, femme, nb, and trans Chicagoans to ride bikes together." The group was co-founded by Sammy Schneider (she/her), who grew up biking around Skokie. After after moving back to Chicagoland from Miami, she decided that she really hated having a car.

RTA’s Travel Information Action Plan is an effort to help create seamless regional transit by making CTA, Metra, and Pace info consistent
The Regional Transportation Authority held its latest installment of its four-part webinar series Transportation Tuesday info session yesterday, which discussed the RTA Travel Information Action Plan 2025. Back in February of 2024 the agency hired a consultant team led by HNTB Corporation to conduct a review and assessment of all information provided to riders. The plan was published in May 2025 and includes a three-year roadmap for improving how transit information is communicated throughout the region.

Loved ones, bike advocates honored Yader Castaneda, fatally struck by Hummer driver at dangerous Loop intersection
Yesterday, family members, friends, and supporters gathered to install a "ghost bike" memorial to fallen cyclist Yader "Yak" Casteneda, 18 at Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue in the Loop. In speeches during the vigil, his loved ones remembered him as an ambitious, hard-working person, and a supportive brother and friend, who lit up a room with his presence.
