For next month’s Streetsblog Chicago reader meetup, we’re returning to the South Side for a hangout session at Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar. Maria’s has been owned by the Marszewski family for decades, and got a makeover in recent years by Maria’s sons Ed and Mike. As well as being a lynchpin of the Bridgeport arts community as the proprietor of the nearby Co-Prosperity Sphere gallery and event space, Ed has been a vocal supporter for bike initiatives in the neighborhood. Here’s the skinny on the meetup:
May Streetsblog Chicago Reader Meet-up
Wednesday, May 10, 6-8 p.m.
Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar
960 West 31st Street
RSVP on Facebook (optional)
Maria’s is located about a mile southwest of the Orange Line’s Halsted station. I recommend climbing the hill in Palmisano Park, 2700 South Halsted, on the way for a breathtaking view of the Loop. You can also get there via the Halsted and 31st Street buses (although the latter stops running at 7 p.m.), and there’s a Divvy station right across the street at 31st and Morgan.
The bar offers a wide selection of spirits, cocktails, and beers, including house beers from Marz Community Brewing Co. Tasty chow is available from Kimski, the Polish-Korean eatery the Marszewskis own next door.
Streetsblog’s meet-ups are always a great opportunity to hang out and network with folks who are passionate about sustainable transportation and livable streets. Hope to see you there!
