While many Streetsblog readers are hardy all-season cyclists, we know some folks hate to go out in the cold, so once again we’re holding our monthly meet-up at a convenient, transit-friendly location. In fact, next week’s event will be held smack-dab next to the Pink Lane’s Damen-Cermak station, at The Barrel bar in Pilsen. Here’s the skinny.
February Streetsblog Chicago Reader Meet-up
Wednesday, February 8, 6-8 p.m.
The Barrel
2105 S. Damen Ave.
The Barrel is directly south of the ‘L’ platform, and you can also get there via the Damen, 18th Street and Cermak buses. There’s a Divvy station half a block north at Cullerton and Damen. Featuring craft beers, American whiskeys, and interesting cocktails, the bar claims to have Chicago’s only Chicago-only tap selection. *Please note that the bar is cash-only.* They don’t serve food, but you’re welcome to bring your own, and there’s a taqueria next door, plus some of the best Mexican food in the city nearby on 18th. I also highly recommend the old-school Italian dining district at 23rd and Oakley, a 13-minute walk southwest, for a nice dinner afterwards.
Streetsblog’s meet-ups are always a great opportunity to hang out and network with folks who are passionate about sustainable transportation and livable streets. Expect some good conversations about the proposal to pedestrianize streets by the upcoming Obama Library in Jackson Park, European transit features we should steal for the CTA, and who’s going to fill the void now that noted Chicago bike troll Mark Konkol has left the local journalism scene.
Hope to see you there!
