Tragically, early this morning, a female driver, 21, who was reportedly intoxicated, fatally struck a woman, 25, on the sidewalk in North Lawndale.

Sadly, last week, an SUV driver struck and killed a 44-year-old male man in Chicago's North Lawndale community and fled the scene.

Last week, the mobility justice nonprofit Equiticity held its annual meeting, titled "Racial Equity in Motion: Exploring the Intersection of Transportation, Environmental Justice, and Public Health," at Impact House, 200 W. Madison.

Equiticity joined forces with LVEJO and Únete La Villita on this event to help strengthen connections between Black and Latino communities in North Lawndale and Little Village.

Equiticity's current Invest in Real Community Change Campaign seeks to raise $125,000 from 300 donors.

CDOT said the historic, now car-free roadway was intended "as a community space where residents can stroll, bike, and enjoy culture."

Last Friday, the mobility justice nonprofit Equiticity held its first-ever "Creativity in Motion: The North Lawndale People’s Ride," a community bike ride focused on film and television. The ride began and ended at Cinespace, 2621 W. 15th Pl. in North Lawndale, meeting at 5:30 p.m. and departing an hour later. It’s a studio where several movies and shows have been filmed, such as the Chicago Med / Fire / P.D. franchise. The ride participants got to bike through Cinespace and passed the outside of the Firehouse, where Chicago Fire is filmed.

The program is designed to teach participants about new technologies, with the goal of providing education and work opportunities.
