During budget town hall at Malcolm X College, officials promise to save the CTA by any means necessary
The CTA held the last of its 2025 budget town halls yesterday, allowing more members of the community to voice their concerns and opinions about the looming $771 million regional transit fiscal cliff. The event took place at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. While officials acknoewledged the budget crisis, it was a "good news and bad news"-style meeting.

Driver fatally struck Shaheed Muhammed, 56, on bike at 63rd/Halsted, fled. Driver killed Rosa Hernandez, 69, at Roosevelt/Halsted in alleged DUI.
Tragically, this month there have been two different incidents in which drivers fatally struck vulnerable road users on or near Chicago's Halsted Street.

Hattie Mickell, 76, fatally struck by a trucker at Madison/Western was the 2nd female senior killed on foot in the area in about a week
Update 2/4/25, 11:30 AM: The Cook County medical examiner's office has identified the victim of the Near West Side crash as Hattie S. Mickell, 76. She lived about two miles southwest of the collision site in the North Lawndale community.

Hit-and-run box truck driver fatally struck Karl Hall, 44, as he crossed Halsted in University Village
Tragically, a box truck driver struck and killed 44-year-old Karl Hall last Wednesday evening as he walked across Halsted Street (800 W.) in the University Village neighborhood. The trucker failed to stop to render aid and has not been apprehended.
