Ald. Andre Vasquez and his staff discussed upcoming pedestrian improvements, plazas, and bikeways, plus the new Peterson/Ridge Metra station.

The plan calls for 49 improved crosswalks, three new pedestrian islands at especially wide crossings, 22 bike rack and amenities stations, seven wayfinding stations (new signage or kiosk), and ten key “Intersection Updates.”

While it's a bummer that biking on Lawrence itself won't be improved as part of the streetscape project, we can look forward to the nearby Leland Greenway opening next year.

The streetscape project on 79th Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, including a possible curb-protected bike lane treatment on a couple blocks of Halsted.

This Complete Streets project includes major streetscape improvements on Commercial between 83th and 93rd streets, with additional improvements on 92nd Street.

Hopefully the Englewood streetscape project be a successful example of how making a retail corridor a safer and more pleasant place to walk, bike, ride transit , and shop can foster a most peaceful, prosperous, and vibrant community.

40th Ward Aldermen Vasquez wants to create a more people-focused street along Lincoln Avenue from Western to Catalpa.

Today city officials cut the ribbon on a multicolored ring-shaped sculpture in the Uptown Entertainment District, the crowning touch on a street remix that converted excess asphalt at Racine Avenue and Broadway into a new pedestrian plaza. The makeover was part of the Broadway streetscape project, which includes new sidewalks, street repaving, lighting, bike racks, garbage cans, crosswalks, and a pedestrian island near the new plaza.
