On Sunday, as part of Streetsblog Chicago's Bike Lane Week 2024, I checked out a little project to create a more seamless transition between two segments of the Leavitt Street (2200 W.) Neighborhood Greenway side street bike route. North of the North Branch of the Chicago River, the route runs about three miles between Diversey Parkway (2800 N.) and Berwyn Avenue (5300 N.)

CDOT says building raised bike lanes is more time-consuming and complex that installing on-street bikeways, but raised lanes are becoming more common.

Hopefully her family will take comfort in knowing that her case spurred changes that could save lives in the future.

The project is one of several innovative walk/bike/transit safety infrastructure initiatives planned or happening in the 47th Ward.

For the past four years, the city of Chicago has constructing the Wells-Wentworth Connector, a new road to link Chinatown with the upcoming The 78 megadevelopment and the South Loop.

A bikeway corridor that includes a mix of raised and non-protected lanes is still essentially a non-protected bike route.

CDOT held its second public meeting on the Leland Greenway. The proposed design for the greenway was presented and members of the public are encouraged to submit feedback over the next two weeks.

This Complete Streets project includes major streetscape improvements on Commercial between 83th and 93rd streets, with additional improvements on 92nd Street.
