Last December, the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board blamed the diagonal Milwaukee Avenue bikeway for traffic jams created by car commuters fleeing Kennedy Expressway construction. "[On] many of the former alternate routes, such as... Milwaukee [the Chicago Department of Transportation has] reduced... vehicular capacity by adding bike lanes," they stated. "Those roads don’t offer any meaningful relief from a clogged expressway anymore."

Yes, CTA needs to be and feel safer. But despite what the U.S. transit czar implied, Trump shouldn’t use that as an excuse to send in National Guard.
Yesterday, Trump's Federal Transit Administration chief Marc Molinaro scolded Chicago leaders about crime on public transportation in a Tribune op-ed titled, "The CTA has become a rolling symbol of abdication. Riders don’t feel safe." Read it on the Tribune website, Bluesky, or Twitter.

During budget town hall at Malcolm X College, officials promise to save the CTA by any means necessary
The CTA held the last of its 2025 budget town halls yesterday, allowing more members of the community to voice their concerns and opinions about the looming $771 million regional transit fiscal cliff. The event took place at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. While officials acknoewledged the budget crisis, it was a "good news and bad news"-style meeting.

Eyes on the street: PARK(ing) Day 2025: A Celebration of Community and Urban Transformation
One of the many important and/or enjoyable sustainable transportation-related events that happened last weekend (more on that tomorrow) was last Saturday's PARK(ing) Day 2025, organized by the Chicago Growth Project. The event took place on the parking lots of Dovetail Brewery, Belle Plaine and Ravenswood avenues, and Demo Brewery, Berteau and Ravenswood avenues, a mere 0.2 miles away from each other. Dovetail is sandwiched between Metra's Union Pacific North Line and the CTA Brown Line.
