When I first saw the design for the new Green Line station at Damen Avenue on the Lake Street branch, I became worried that the station didn't have an entrance providing access to the westbound platform. Several of the other stations on the branch to city's West Side and Oak Park have entrances on both sides: Ashland, Morgan, and Conservatory-Central Park Drive, to name a few.

Many curb extensions are under construction on School/Aldine, and a raised bike lane at Roscoe/Broadway is also in the works.

The improvements include a new elevator to add wheelchair access, and a better bike/ped connection from the Lakeshore East development.

"Shoppers, shopkeepers, and residents can rest assured" that the project is dead, writes reporter Susan S. Steven, but what about the 8 million-plus people who rode the Ashland bus last year?

The most sustainable option, converting existing traffic lanes to bus-only, is still on the table. But it's not going to happen unless residents voice support for it.

Bikes from other DoBi companies, as well as private cycles, may also be parked there.

The driver who opened their door in cyclist Luster Jackson's path was not cited.

New green paint, a dedicated bike signal, and -- gasp! -- a bike lane on Michigan help facilitate the transfer.

The route would run from the Chicago River to Western Avenue.
