Streetsblog Chicago readers are familiar with how last month sustainable transportation and environmental advocates joined forces with 14 forward-thinking alders. They called on the Chicago and Illinois transportation departments to halt plans to simply rebuild North DuSable Lake Shore Drive as an eight-lane highway, and instead make the lakefront more walk/bike/transit-friendly.

According to the letter, rehabbing the station would cost less that $40M, a small fraction of the price tag of many other local transportation projects.

The planned improvements include a 4-to-3 road diet and slip lane removals on Archer, protected bike lanes, pedestrian upgrades, and bus boarding islands.

According to Star:Line Chicago, "The 2034sight Plan is an ambitious — and achievable — ten-year framework to lay the groundwork to modernize Chicagoland’s existing local passenger rail system."

Police charged a driver with first-degree murder after he allegedly struck pedestrian Steven Moore, 63, Saturday in Roseland, and then turned his car around and ran Moore over again as he struggled to get up, killing him. The motorist then reportedly drove around the neighborhood threatening other people until he rammed another driver, fled on foot, and was finally arrested.
