soutYou probably knew that President Barack Obama designated parts of the Pullman neighborhood and the former Pullman Company Porter train car factory as the Pullman National Monument in February 2015. The accomplishment was based on 20 years of campaigning by residents and leaders to get a national park designation.

Last month the Active Transportation Alliance held their annual awards ceremony, recognizing three key supporters of local sustainable transportation efforts: Christopher Burke Engineering, MB Financial Bank and Slow Roll Chicago.

While many Streetsblog readers are hardy all-season cyclists, we know some folks hate to go out in the cold, so once again we’re holding our monthly meet-up at a convenient, transit-friendly location. In fact, next week’s event will be held smack-dab next to the Pink Lane’s Damen-Cermak station, at The Barrel bar in Pilsen. Here’s the skinny.

Update 5/30/18, 2:15 PM: Today Alderman Hopkins provided documentation that indicates that he asked the 14th Police District to hold a targeted enforcement event on January 19, 2017, to ticket motorists for dangerous driving, but the police took it upon themselves to focus on ticketing bicyclists instead. Read the full story, including the correspondence from Hopkins, on this Twitter thread. 

The driver was not cited, and police said it is believed he had the green, but there's no record of independent witnesses or camera footage to back up this theory.

The push to convert a parking lot next to the Logan Square station into a 100-percent-affordable TOD is picking up steam.
