An elderly man died from his injuries early Sunday morning after being struck in the Jefferson Park community two days earlier by a driver who fled the scene.

Last Friday at around 8:20 p.m., Carroll Brown, 76, was walking across Central Avenue eastbound at West Ainslie Street, authorities said. A southbound motorist struck the senior and then sped away, according to police.

Brown, who lived nearby on the 4900 block of North Central, was transported to Advocate Lutherin General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. After an autopsy on Monday, his death was ruled an accident.

Major Accidents is investigating the case.
