Ride Riverside is a cycling and livable streets organization in the eponymous near-western suburb. In 2024, the group hosted nine family-friendly social rides that drew as many as 100 participants. That's roughly one percent of the village's population of 9,298.

In case you can't tell from Streetsblog Chicago's homepage, beating the drum on the region’s impending transit budget crisis is our top priority right now. After all, if the state legislature fails to pass a funding and reform bill this summer, the likely result will be roughly 40 percent service cuts and 3,000 layoffs. That would be disastrous for the region and counter to SBC’s mission: Making Chicagoland a safer and more efficient, equitable, environmentally friendly, and enjoyable place to get around.

The Wellington Avenue Neighborhood Greenway is a relatively anodyne project that will have little impact on drivers. But at last week's community meeting, some motorists raised a fuss.

Public transit riders, workers, and advocates showed up in force for Saturday's Save Transit Rally at Daley Plaza, calling on state lawmakers to pass a bill to address Chicagoland's looming $771 million transit fiscal cliff. They demanded a special legislative session in Springfield this summer to prevent a projected 40 percent cut in service and some 3,000 layoffs, similar to what's currently happening in Philadelphia.

Five-lane, high-speed Pulaski Road on the Southwest Side has seen more than its share of deadly crashes recently. These included the tragic deaths of pedestrians Jiekun Xu in February 2024 and Charlie Mills in March of that year.
