CDOT Aims to Install Over 1,000 Bike Parking Spaces in 2014
The new Chicago Department of Transportation bike parking program manager, Kathleen Murphy, described the upcoming summer and fall installation season during the Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Council meeting two weeks ago. She outlined three initiatives that will get over a thousand new bicycle parking spaces installed on sidewalks and roadways.

Divvy NIMBYs’ Bike-Share Nightmare Is Over: Lakeview Station Relocated
Chicago’s most notorious bike-share haters, married couple and lawyers David Kolin and Jeannine Cordero, have gotten Divvy deliverance. In the wake of a lawsuit by the pair, the city has removed a “hideous” bike-share station from their Lakeview block. However, it’s not for the reasons you might expect.

Don’t Despair, Evanston & Oak Park May Still Get Divvy Stations
Last month, it was a bummer when the Illinois Department of Transportation announced $52.7 million in funding for transportation projects, including many bike and pedestrian projects, but the expansion of Divvy into the suburbs wasn’t one of them. However, officials say they’re hopeful money can be found to extend the system past the city limits.

CDOT Forgets to Accommodate Cyclists During Bloomingdale Construction
Bloomingdale Trail construction charges ahead, with bridge work that involves closing Milwaukee at the viaduct, tonight at 8 p.m. through early Monday morning. Cars, trucks and buses will detour around the construction via North and Western, and pedestrians are advised to take a shorter detour via Oakley, Wilmot, and Leavitt Street to reach Wilmot. Winnebago, which would otherwise be a detour option since, like Wilmot, it parallels Milwaukee, will also be closed at the Bloomingdale viaduct during construction.

CDOT Acts Quickly To Remove Dumpster Blocking Dearborn Bike Lane
A mysterious dumpster blocked both lanes of the Dearborn protected bike lane this morning, causing Chicagoans to tweet their displeasure.

More Bike-Share Locations Revealed; Full List Available Later This Month
Last month we reported on the first bike-share stations locations to be made public. Now more station locations are being revealed every day on the official Divvy Bikes Facebook page, and 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno has released a map of 19 locations.

Will CDOT and CTA Launch “True BRT” on the Central Loop Corridor?
Last week the CTA and Chicago Department of Transportation unveiled the proposed lane configuration for the Central Loop East-West Transit Corridor. According to the city’s press release, the improvements will include dedicated bus lanes on Canal, Washington, Madison and Clinton, delineated with colored pavement and additional signs. The system, which is slated to open for service next year, would serve some 1,700 buses and would include level boarding via “island” bus platforms, plus queue jumps at key intersections.

A Quick Update on the Bike Bridge Berny Blocked
The bike-pedestrian bridge connecting two sides of the North Shore Channel Trail near Lincoln and Peterson avenues is one piece of infrastructure I can't wait to see completed. Its absence symbolizes the power of Chicago's aldermen to obstruct improvements as the city grows its car-free transportation network.
