Grand Crossing

The victim was the 23rd pedestrian killed by a driver on Chicago streets this year.

The case was the fourth fatal pedestrian crash of 2018.

Last week, a high-speed police chase in Grand Crossing ended in a multi-car crash that killed a 66-year-old man and injured several other people. It was the second time an innocent bystander had been killed this year by a suspect evading fleeing police officers.

Local artist Doug Fogelson wants his new, water-inspired installation at the Red Line’s 69th station to have a ripple effect, improving the daily commute for thousands of Chicagoans. “My goal was to to create something timeless, elemental, and slightly abstract, that would enhance the experiences of people moving through the station or working there, over a long time span,” he said.

The Chicago Department of Transportation continues to pump out more bikeways, as part of its effort to build 100 miles of protected and buffered lanes by 2015. Today I took a spin around the South Side to check out new buffered lanes on 75th Street and on Oakwood Boulevard.
