Today the Chicago Department of Transportation put out a press release about the new Chicago Cycling Strategy plan, "outlining a community-driven approach to expanding Chicago’s bike network and creating a more equitable, safe, and inviting city for cycling." Streetsblog will take a closer look at that document soon.

It looks like in the future Divvy users won't have to worry about having the no more blue bikes blues.

The blizzard conditions, high winds, and subzero temperatures of the past 24 hours in Chicago have been character-building, to say the least.

Over a roughly six-week period, at any given point about one in five stations has no "classic" bikes (the original blue non-electric cycles) for rent and one fifth of docked bikes were flagged as broken.

Divvy is a fantastic sustainable transportation system, but it's not only crucial that it stays solvent, it also needs to be accessible to Chicagoans in all parts of the city, from all walks of life.

According to a bike-share official, some bikes are awaiting parts like computer chips that have been delayed as part of the global supply shortages that is impacting many industries.

CDOT, Divvy, and Adaptive Adventures are holding free adaptive cycling sessions where people with disabilities can ride adaptive bikes.

Perversely, CDOT's and Lyft's community outreach plan was to explain to the public how the new pricing system works after members were already being charged the new e-bike fees.

While cyclists in Chicago facing blocked bike lanes and dangerous drivers may feel like second-class citizens every day, it is perhaps surprising that, under current Illinois law, they actually are.  Local governments  – municipalities, townships, and counties –  have an obligation to maintain roads in a condition that is safe to drive on, but have no such obligation to people biking.
