I don’t see how a protected bike lane would have prevented the fatal Divvy crash. She was struck in an intersection due to a right hook. PLBs do nothing to protect cyclists in intersections and encourage right hooks by placing cyclists in a turning driver’s blind spot and keeping cyclists separate from traffic where they’re out of sight and out of mind until paths cross in an intersection.

Truck side guards might have prevented Virginia Murray’s death. I’ve started to see more of them, but too many big trucks still do not have them. How many deaths need to happen before a law is passed requiring them?

This is something that needs some examination, I think. I suspect it’s just as likely that truck side guards could have made this situation just a little worse, if that’s possible. I’d think the guards would have to come extremely close to the pavement to keep a person from being pulled under. But it’s worth study.

Not quite a PBL, but the intersection of Washington and Franklin (where you cross the PBL) is a nightmare for cyclists going north on Franklin. There really needs to be a right-turn signal there. Drivers seem to forget the half dozen cyclists that are queued there when they make their right turns onto Washington and either come close to right hooking you or completely block your path.
