Anecdotally, I’ve heard that first responders hate speed bumps. I’d cast my vote for road diet either way.

This is only a little part of the plan. This particular route can continue down Cottage Grove to the UofC and MSI, a catalyst for transit-oriented development in Bronzeville. There are other places in the city where local buses stuck in traffic deserve an upgrade to BRT or streetcar, in neighborhoods all over town. But only those where ridership (supported by development) is very high are good candidates for rail. The idea is to evolve toward the most cost-effective and fiscally responsible system. Sometimes that means building new things.

“I do think if a plan like this comes to fruition, certainly the people who live in the dis-invested south and west sides may come to feel that unless your living on or near Lake Shore Drive, you get nothing.”

    Pretty much.
