Re: Milwaukee downzoning. I’ve already ranted about it in here, but just one more example of what passes for “progressive” and “anti-gentrification” around here (here = Chicago, not SB) is laughable. I’m tired.

  • F. Hayek 69

Streets blog readers are feeling the Bern as beloved socialist alderman Carlos Ramirez Rosa accelerates gentrification by increasing competition for current housing and banning any big increases in rental stock in trendy Logan Square and Avondale.

  • planetshwoop

Rosa needs a new job. He is so busy being progressive he never bothers to do the basics in his ward. The downzoning on Milwaukee is a terrible idea.

I’ve beaten this horse dead plenty of times but there are $750,000+ SFH deconversions in Avondale right. now. It’s not hard to find them. Further blocking dense development is neither progressive nor stemming gentrification, it’s self-destructive pandering.

But hey, he’ll get some fiery speeches out of it and the same community groups will hurrah behind him so I guess it’s a win…for someone.

He wins when his ward gets more expensive. He can pay lipservice to the lower classes while catering to the developers eager to build more ugly yuppie terrariums for 1.2 millions
