    That Tribune equity piece is all over the place, but hey, maybe it signals a change in tone towards their bike coverage!

    I think a gas tax will always fail because of its name. Call it a carbon tax and you might have more luck. Or, try and break out the 30 cent increase into specific buckets that expire when goals are met. Eg call it a pothole tax at 5¢ /gal and then have it decrease by half when streets are back to 90% good condition (or whatever). Also, one needs to consider if CNG or electric cars can be taxed for “fuel”… Electric cars should pay for bridge maintenance, potholes, etc.
