The one nice thing about the transit score ranking is that Active Trans can use it in their favor to lobby for greater funding.

It’s sounded like recent politicking in D.C. has made the Red Line extension increasingly more likely. That’s great. I still think we should be contemplating a Brown Line extension to Jefferson Park before we do any extensions to the Orange or Yellow lines.

Have it run west on Lawrence, with stops at Elston and Pulaski, before terminating at Jefferson Park, where people can switch to the Blue Line to get to O’Hare. Or, have Brown Line trains run all the way to the airport themselves.

This becomes more difficult when advocacy organizations like Streetsblog does its darndest to discredit the transit score. They probably should have thought that through.

While we discussed some issues with the way Transit Score ranks cities, we noted that other rankings agree with TS that Chicago’s transit service lags behind peer cities: http://chi.streetsblog.org/2015/12/08/transit-rankings-agree-chicagos-service-not-as-good-as-other-big-cities/

I definitely think the Transit Score rating is crap. There’s no way that San Francisco’s trolleys (which partially run in traffic) should be ranked alongside Chicago’s L and New York’s Subway.

I’m just saying that it’s another thing Active Trans can use in their lobbying effort. Any little bit helps, and while Transit Score is worthless, Walk Score is a solid website overall.

I always find that my most persuasive arguments make reference to “worthless” stats.
