Confused about the Purple tracks rehab. Is this a first step of the full rehab of the embankment ROW? or just a track/tie repair?

I think the Red/Purple rehab is still years away–it has not yet even secured Federal funding. My guess is that the CTA and City decided it wasn’t a good idea to push off addressing the slow zones north Lawrence any longer. Also, speeding up that long stretch of track might help make up for the multi-year, 3-track bottleneck around Wilson, where a major rehab is currently underway as part of the Wilson station rebuild.
