Pawar is a sell-out who will do anything to save his job–including turning his back on his own previous positions. Pegging his support for the BRT to the very-unlikely return of the 11 bus is a safe way out of being criticized by his upcoming aldermanic opponent for supporting BRT.

Where are the real progressives in this city, state, or federal government? These guys (the Democrats) start out supporting mildly-progressive initiatives such as the Affordable Health Care Act or Bus-Rapid Tranist, but the moment these initiatives are criticized, the spineless Democrats retreat.

Of course those spines bend both ways. So it’s likely that the promise to withhold support for the BRT until the #11 is restored is just as likely a sop to another potential set of voters. Meaning that whoever screams loudest or with the most money or with city perks to hand out will likely win.

So, you gonna put up a “pure” progressive candidate who will criticize Pawar for the flip flop? And (presumably) eviscerate the hypothetical truly anti-BRT candidate.

Only 473 (valid!) signatures need to get someone on the ballot–13 days left.

For at least year Pawer has threatened to withdrawal support for Ashland BRT if the CTA could not explain why it was ok to leave the directly redundant Ashland bus in place after BRT was built but it was supposedly not ok to have the #11 because it was redundant with the Brown Line (which for much of the 11’s route was more than half a mile away). Last I heard the CTA basically didn’t have an answer. This isn’t selling out. This is forcing agencies to be transparent and consistent in their policies.

Pawar’s support has always been conditional. He’s supported BRT in theory, but expressed concerns with how it’s planned and how resident’s concerns are addressed.

I can see how this project is losing support of people who support who support BRT in general. The plan leaves a lot of open questions and the CTA and other BRT supporters have done a terrible job of addressing concerns.
